One of the little known but amazing applications for your Gnome-Panel is the SSHmenu.
It allows you to have a list of hosts in which you ssh to often. Not only that but each host can have a different unique profile set for the connection. This is useful in the way that you can setup a Production server to have a red background to remind you that your on a production system. You could also set a Development system to have a blue background so you know you are on a dev box.
You can read all about it here: http://sshmenu.sourceforge.net/
Or you can download & install it via apt-get (ubuntu/debian).
sudo apt-get install sshmenu-gnome
